Hiking
In our coastal region, we have two first-rate hiking trails in terms of historical route, ethnographic significance and natural charm.
Before mentioning others, the walk to Garraitz Island along the intertidal promenade is a must. You just have to be aware of the tide going out and walk carefully so you don’t slip. The island is a true delight of landscapes and historical episodes hidden in its archaeological remains.

Lea Ibilbidea
The quintessential trail of this region is the Lea Ibilbidea, a 23-kilometer-long path that runs parallel to the river, forming part of the “GR 38. Wine and Fish Route”.
A stroll through its dormant treasures, which in the form of hydraulic engineering marvels tell us of the splendor of the 16th and 18th centuries of the iron world, is a must.
The second and most universal is the Camino de Santiago through the North. From the Collegiate Church of Zenarruza towards Urdaibai, our territory passes through the medieval town of Gerrikaitz.
Other local PRs of great scenic beauty, characteristic of the small valleys of the Cantabrian coast, complete the network of trails.
